Types of Serial Killers

What’s in a name? The definition of a serial killer

To fully understand what type of killers there are, we must first try to understand that serial killing itself is not a new phenomenon but instead goes back to some of the first historical recordings. Roman Gladiators, Mercenaries, and even Executioners of medieval and current times can all technically be classified as serial killers by most of today’s definitions. But what actually defines a serial killer as such? Well like everything else in the world there is more than one definition, but here at Puff of Madness,  we will be going by the definition the FBI uses. According to the FBI, a serial killer (or offender) is someone who commits at least three murders within a month with a cooling-off period in between, this cooling-off period is needed to distinguish between a mass murder and a serial murder. Now that we understand the definition of a serial killer let us begin to enlighten you on the different types of killers. There are many, many types of killers, in fact, there is so many that this will be an ongoing topic here at Puff of Madness, one with at least two different types per article. I hope you all enjoy reading it just as much as we enjoy sharing this knowledge with you. Now with that being said let’s dig right in shall we?

The Obsession

The interest in serial killers is at an all-time high nowadays. With all the crime shows or channels on the air and let’s not forget the books, movies, websites, and blogs dedicated to them the once weird macabre interest is now seen at most as just a dark perhaps slightly odd one. But still, one that many people share, just like us here at PuffofMadness.

Now we can’t speak for everyone but for us, the interest goes a bit further or deeper than it does with some others and starts to spill over into obsession. And what better way to purge the knowledge we have acquired through searches than to share them here with awesome like-minded people such as yourself.

Here at Puff of madness, you will find serial killers categorized by name, gender, and type. We are currently working on transcribing interviews with some and are working on adding a website called Necrogear selling t-shirts with serial killer/ dark humor content.

We hope you check it out and feel free to drop us a line anytime.

Power and Control Killers

Hello, my lovely dark readers welcome back to our little slice of madness. In this post, we will discuss Power and Control killers- A power and control killer enjoys watching the suffering, pain, and terror of their victims.
This type of killer is normally an organized one and is often a victim of some form of child abuse that may have left them feeling inadequate and powerless. (Note I said often because there are some who endured nothing that would even begin to scratch the surface of abuse)
The majority of the time they sexually abuse their victims although their actions are not based solely on a sexual thrill the abuse and or rape is used to dominate the victim giving the offender another type of gratification.
An infamous example of a power and control killer is Ted Bundy (November 24, 1946 – January 24, 1989).
He was arrested in 1978, after having murdered at least 30 women. He would kidnap and sexually assault his victims before brutally murdering them. In 1989, he was put to death by way of the electric chair. Another example of a power and control killer is Lawrence Sigmund Bittaker (September 27, 1940 – December 13, 2019) and Roy Lewis Norris (February 5, 1948 – February 24, 2020), together were both known as the Tool Box Killers, together they kidnapped, raped, tortured, and killed five teenage girls. Bittaker was sentenced to death for five murders on March 24, 1981, but died of natural causes while incarcerated on death row.
Norris accepted a plea bargain, to think these monsters did unspeakable horrible things to women, and yet despite all the pain he inflicted on innocent people he accepted the plea in which he would testify against Bittaker to avoid the death penalty. On May 7,1980 and was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after serving thirty years. Fortunately, he too died of natural causes although that was too easy of a way out if you ask me. We hope you enjoyed and learned something from us, please stay tuned the next post will be about Sexually Oriented Killers

Thrill Killers

The Thrill seekers- This type of killer kills for mostly the thrill alone some while trying to outsmart the authorities also for their own amusement, they may be considered either organized and meticulous or unorganized in their thought process. Some of these types of offenders like to keep detailed records of their kills or may keep a souvenir from their victims. They typically use blunt or sharp weapons and normally rape their victims before killing them. Other types of thrill-seekers can become Hedonistic, that is they believe that the most crucial thing in life is the pursuit of pleasure. Richard Ramirez born February 29, 1960 – June 7, 2013, was recorded saying “I love to kill people, I love to watch them die. I would shoot them in the head and they would wiggle and squirm all over the place, and then just stop. Or I would cut them with a knife and watch their faces turn real white. I love all that blood” or Carl Panzram born June 28, 1891 – September 5, 1930, whose last words before execution were “hurry it up you Hoosier bastard! I could kill a dozen men while you’re screwing around! Are both great examples of Thrill seeker killers. Like most serial killers Richard Ramirez and Carl Panzram both had very traumatic childhoods in fact it is sporadic for a serial killer to have a conventional childhood, now of course there is no scientific data proving that this was what caused the offenders to do their horrid crimes but it is something to consider. I personally have had a very dark and terrible childhood and yes when I get pushed too far I do unspeakable things IN MY MIND only of course because well I love tacos and there are noo tacos in prison. But not everyone has a deep love for tacos to make them keep those violent thoughts just that, Thoughts. Well, my dark wonderful people, we hope you enjoyed this piece and hope you come back our next up will be Power and Control killers so stay tuned my lovelies!
